Geographies of Heritage Tourism

Description

This module takes an integrated approach to environmental and cultural aspects of heritage, its consumption and commodification within the tourism industry and the challenges of heritage tourism management in urban and rural landscapes. 

Learning Outcomes

  1. critically discuss theoretical concepts of heritage tourism in relation to case studies.

  2. critically assess heritage tourism policies and governance in Ireland and other international settings.

  3. critically evaluate the changing role of museums in society and tourism

  4. critically review world heritage management principles and practices in relation to case studies

  5. apply theoretical concepts underlying the sustainable management of heritage tourism landscapes to case studies

  6. critically review heritage tourism management relating to individual heritage tourism sites, attractions and events.
