Introduction to Fundamental Motor Skills and Behaviour

Description

Fundamental motors skills are the foundation for individuals to participate in physical activity and to engage with more complex sport forms.  The aim of this module is to provide students with the fundamental knowledge and understanding of motor behaviour and motor skills, to enhance their participation and that of others in physical activity and sporting performance. They will explore these skills from childhood to adolescence to adulthood.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate the fundamentals of movement and motor skills

  2. Describe motor development across the lifespan, specifically during childhood and adolescence.

  3. Describe and discuss the scientific methods and procedures used to investigate motor skill performance and learning

  4. Develop and advise performers, teachers, and/or coaches regarding appropriate practice for learning and enhancing motor skills, based on sound theoretical information

  5. Identify the critical elements of selected fundamental motor skills and understand the issues in coaching fundamental motor skills

  6. Plan, conduct and evaluate practical assessments and interventions for children/adolescents in fundamental movement skills
