The MA in Transformative Practices in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion in ATU Mayo Campus aims to respond to three specific challenges:

First, it responds to the requirement to understand a socially diverse and multi-cultural Ireland.

Second, it seeks to enhance the skills of learners so that they may be culturally, socially, and emotionally competent in equality, diversity, and inclusion practices.

Third, it sets out to support learners to engage in transformative practice so that difference and inclusion can be rendered visible and celebrated in the framework of a positive affirmation of human diversity.

The programme is designed to develop graduates who primarily will work in equality, inclusion, and diversity related fields, but the programme is also suitable for those seeking a broad understanding of contemporary equality and diversity issues.

Programme Delivery:

The programme is a blended programme with a mix of online learning and several residential sessions.

The learning approach uses a combination of lectures, tutorials, workshops, readings, class discussion, role plays, work placement and case-study analysis.

Learners are encouraged to participate in the virtual classroom by using specific online participatory tools.

The focus is on relating concepts to actual situations, and a particular effort is made to invite outside speakers from various domains of practice and from a variety of social settings.

Programme Assessment:

Assessment throughout the course is based on the idea that learners are co-creators of their own learning.

As such, you will be involved in shaping the syllabus emphasis and will participate in assessment design.

There are no written exams but you will be expected to engage in writing reflective blogs, create life maps, and design and execute research or action projects.

Exit Awards:

There are two exit awards built into the programme:

1. A Certificate in Transformative Practices in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (30 credits)
2. A Post-graduate Diploma in Transformative Practices in Equality, Diversity, and Inclusion (60 credits)

Applicants Will Require the Following:

• A personal statement outlining why you wish to undertake the programme. In the event of a surplus number of applicants, the personal statement will form the basis for selection of offers.
• Ideally, a Level 8 degree at H2.2 in any discipline. As the MA is designed for multiple applications in various settings, candidates will be considered from a wide variety of academic disciplinary backgrounds and work practices.
• Applicants who do not have formal qualification can be considered through Recognition of Prior Learning (RPL).  
• Please note that RPL is a separate process (i.e. applicants must first apply to the programme on the ATU website, and then apply for RPL on www.myexperience.ie– you can link with john.mulloy@atu.ie to guide you through this process). 
• Applicants whose first language is not English are required to provide evidence of English language proficiency. These requirements are available from ATU's Admission's office.
