The staff really have our best interests, as they want us to be properly prepared for our future as a teacher.

I am very glad that I picked this course. The projects set by lecturers are very practical oriented. All the assignments have clear takeaways, and lecturers are so enthusiastic in helping us to understand ‘why’ and ‘how’. The staff really have our best interests, as they want us to be properly prepared for our future as a teacher. This is clear in the way that they support and push us as we prepare for School Placements.

The University is very supportive of the WorldSkills Ireland competition (which promotes and showcases the skills of young learners in a variety of professions and skills). I was so lucky to be encouraged to compete against my peers in the Carpentry category for two years. I was tutored by a lecturer and supported by the University. Thanks to the expertise and devotion of my tutor – a passion for learning and the subjects were further inspired in me.

I have grown and developed a lot of resilience and confidence throughout this course and the participation in the competition. I have honed my woodwork, graphics and teaching skills but most of all, I have gained a sense that the staff strive to create a community for students that is transformative and caring.
