The President of GMIT, Dr Orla Flynn, welcomed a visit from the British Ambassador to Ireland, His Excellency Mr Paul Johnston, and Embassy delegates this week (Tuesday 22 February 2022) to learn about the new Atlantic Technological University for the west and north-west, and research collaborations with the UK.

Ambassador Johnston and colleagues were given a presentation about the new TU which will see GMIT, IT Sligo and Letterkenny officially merge on 1 April, bringing together eight campuses across four counties, ~22,200 students and ~2,000 staff, together with multiple Research Centres and Innovation Hubs.

The delegation met leaders from GMIT’s International and Research & Innovation offices and toured GMIT’s Innovation Hub (iHub) where they viewed GMIT’s Medical Imaging Suite and met with MedTech client companies Bluedrop Medical and Tympany Medical.
