Outdoor Education Philosophy and Teaching Skills
Description
This Module is divided into two clear sections. The first section is about the history and philosophy of Outdoor Education. It explores the historical development of education out of doors as a concept and examines how this has been applied internationally and in an Irish context. The second section of this module is an introduction to the skills of teaching. The skills of teaching are introduced, practiced, evaluated and reviewed and then applied in a Service Learning Project/s and through Micro-teaching.
Learning Outcomes
Have a broad understanding of the historical foundations and development of outdoor education in an international and national context
Recognize, categorise and describe different teaching skills and interventions and offer assessments of their value in different learning situations.
Practice and evaluate the practical skills of teaching in a safe encouraging forum and learn to enhance these skills through discussion, tutor and peer feedback and reflective writing.
Critically analyse the assumptions that underpin foundational philosophies of education and critically assess their educational processes and outcomes.
