Outreach Opportunities

GMIT Business students

Schools

We work with DEIS schools across Galway and Mayo to provide taster workshops and outreach events to give young people an opportunity to learn about various courses in an engaging way and show them that attending University is a realistic opportunity.

Some workshops/programmes we currently run:

  • VEX Robotic workshops.
  • Culinary workshops
  • Radius Project
  • Study skills workshops
  • Leaving Cert revision courses
  • Summer taster courses

Strengths PATH programme

The ‘Strengths PATH’ programme is a blended online digital programme for pre-entry underrepresented young people created by the team at mycareerpath.ie. The programme incorporates activities and information on taking and understanding the online strengths profile assessment tool.

ATU Connect Project have collaborated with Mycareerpath.ie to provide the Strengths PATH programme to secondary school students & early school leavers. Students attend workshops to discuss the programme and then complete the Strength Profiles online. One to one meetings are then setup to meet with students to analyse their results.

’I feel that it has given them more confidence & are now exploring different courses/careers, based on their capabilities/interests & not what is expected of them’

I enjoyed the strengths profiling course as it confirmed to me that I have the skills required to pursue the career I am interested in. It also made me aware of skills I have that I didn’t know about. The team were extremely helpful and friendly and made sure to explain everything to me.”

Local Community Groups

We work with local groups across Galway and Mayo to support adults and young people from underrepresented groups gain access to higher education.

In the academic year of 2022/ 2023 we worked with over 35 community partners across Galway and Mayo.

Please get in contact if you would like your organisation to get involved or if you would like us to provide a talk, tour or taster workshop for your group.
