Principles of IS

Description

This course provides a broad introduction to information systems, seen within organisational and societal contexts. Apart from examining hardware, software, networks and the Internet, the student will undertake basic programming.
The aim is to provide students with an appropriate balance of technical and organisational perspectives to serve as a basis for further study in the field.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify different  computer components.

  2. Differentiate between operating systems, utility and application programmes

  3. Describe the physical and logical operation of the Internet

  4. Describe the operation of a business network, collaborative work and cloud technologies

  5. Deign and develop a basic database

  6. Design and develop a basic programme using a high-level language (such as Python)
