Project Management

Description

This module explores the principles of management and the project management process as it relates to construction projects. It also considers a variety of management systems and techniques and their applications for construction companies.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Identify the characteristics of production project management in the construction industry and assess the potential for efficiency in production systems.

  2. Explain the project management processes and develop suitable process improvement.

  3. Develop advanced project management control schedules and systems.

  4. Develop a systematic framework for the management of quality, environmental and health & safety issues in construction Project Management.

  5. Assess project risk and design appropriate mitigation measures.

  6. Evaluate the importance of core elements in project management (for example: time, cost, quality, risk, environment, sustainability, communication, diversity, change) and develop practical improvement strategies.

  7. Detail the fundamentals and evaluate the advantages and disadvantages of management theory, leadership theory, organisational structure, motivation theory and the general dynamics of controlling and planning associated with management.
