Solid State and Semiconductor Physics

Description

Solid state physics studies how the macroscopic properties of solid materials result from atomic scale properties. In this module, specific emphasis is placed on crystalline solid formation and understanding electronic properties conductors and semiconductors.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Demonstrate a conceptual and theoretical understanding of the dominant bonding mechanism involved in crystalline solids.

  2. Demonstrate a conceptual and theoretical understanding of electron motion in conductors and semiconductors.

  3. Demonstrate a conceptual and theoretical understanding of energy bands and electron energy distributions in solids.

  4. Extend from the fundamentals of 1,2&3 to applications in (e.g.) various semiconductor devices.
