The Psychology of Trauma

Description

This module will provide an overview of trauma and Trauma informed practice. The area of trauma has often been misunderstood, as a result of this some people who have accessed services may not have received appropriate trauma informed care. This module will provide a broad view of our understanding of Trauma, how it is experienced by the person experiencing the traumatic event/events and the impact this may have on the listener/professional. The key helping approaches when working with Trauma will be critically evaluated. 

Learning Outcomes

  1. Differentiate between definitions and causes of trauma ie simple and complex. 

     

  2. Critically evaluate the effects of trauma on the person and the wider impact on significant others. 

  3. Critically assess trauma informed practice and discuss examples of this approach. 

  4. Examine secondary traumatic stress and post traumatic growth
