Understanding the human body and its application in Outdoor Education

Description

This module is designed for students on the undergraduate Outdoor Education Programmes.Students will be introduced to the human body exploring its capacity and potential for exercise, adventure and active engagement in and with the natural world. It aims to encourage students in the application of a basic understanding of human anatomy and physiology to outdoor activities that they are familiar with. First aid training is facilitated as part of this programme and is a mandatory must pass component of the module.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Describe the basic anatomy and physiology of the human body

  2. Discuss the impact of exercise on the human body

  3. Describe how an understanding of anatomy & physiology can contribute to enjoyment and safety in the pursuit of outdoor adventure or sporting activity.

  4. Discuss the potential of physical activity in the natural setting to contribute to physiological well-being

  5. Administer basic first aid
