Wilderness Living and Buschcraft Skills

Description

This module aims to equip learners with the skills, knowledge and understanding required to live comfortably out of doors. The module takes place in the wider European movement towards education out of doors and examines the close connection between human well-being and environmental and ecological conditions. The module will address and explore wilderness and bushcraft skills, contemporary as well as traditional, through demonstrations, discussion and experiential pedagogy. The rudimentary skills of bushcraft living will be examined in the context of environmental sustainability and the connection between the environment and human well-being.

Learning Outcomes

  1. Articulate a broad understanding of the link between the environment and human well-being.

  2. Articulate a broad undesratnding of the principles and practices required to live comfortably out of doors and discuss these in the context of the European movement towards learning out-of-doors.

  3. Demonstrate the rudimentary skills of bushcraft under the headings of fire, shelter, food and water.

  4. Recognise the ethical implications of the their oudoor living practices, make sound judegements and understanding existing codes of practice.
