David Moore - Accounting Graduate
The Bachelor of Business (Hons) in Accounting provided me with an excellent base to pursue a career in accounting. The subjects were very practical, focusing both on the requirements of the professional accountancy bodies as well as the requirements of accountancy firms and industry. In addition to studying core accountancy subjects I studied practical modules such as Computerised Accountancy Packages, Information Technology and Professional Development which have helped me enormously upon my entry to the work place.
In July 2012, I commenced work with Russell Brennan Keane Accountants in Roscommon. I am currently based in the insolvency department working mainly on receiverships and liquidations. The transition from being a student to a trainee accountant was made a lot easier due to the excellent
teaching received in GMIT.
As GMIT receives the maximum number of exemptions from ACCA, it meant I only had five exams to complete after my degree. I am currently in the process of sitting these exams. Also, the programme is so well recognised by employers that I secured my job half way through my final year in college. This meant I did not have to worry about seeking employment after my degree. I had it all organised months before I
finished which enabled me to concentrate on my final year exams. I would strongly recommend GMIT as a place to further your education.
Leona Heneghan - Accounting Graduate
In 2009 I commenced my studies in GMIT Castlebar on the Higher Certificate in Business in Computer Applications programme. On completing this program I decided to continue with the Bachelor of Arts in Accounting and Financial Management before eventually progressing to the Bachelor of Business (Honours) in Accounting.
On completing my final exams I decided to continue with my education and pursue a masters qualification. While researching the postgraduate programme, I saw the opportunity to apply for a scholarship funded by CIMA. Following an essay submission, I was called to interview and shortly after was fortunate enough to become a “CIMA scholar” 2013 – 2014. I have since commenced my studies at University College Dublin Michael Smurfit Graduate School of Business.
GMIT Castlebar is truly an extraordinary place in which to study. The support received from both the lecturers and peers is tremendous. I truly believe that the education and guidance I received from the lecturers in GMIT Castlebar has aided me in becoming a CIMA scholar, has prepared me for the demanding requirements of a masters programme and has provided me with a solid foundation for my future endeavours.
